Recycle.. Upcycle Canning Lids and Rings..Door Bells.

Do you have a few to a ton of lids or ring from canning?? A friend of mine and i sure do. We don't really wanna just toss them in the trash and waste them.. so we started looking for ideas to reuse or recycle the rings and lids.. did not see many at all. so we had to be creative..  Want to know what we cam up with??? I can't wait to show you.. Its super easy..
all you need is ... (Drum Roll Please) Fabric, rings, Lids, Glue gun, Glue sticks, yarn or ribbon, bells(Jingle Bells), Old Christmas Cards.. Pictures.. Anything will work.. And patience..

Here we have Canning lids and rings.. along with fabric..
                                                         Then cut the fabric
Here we have a Hot Glue gun and Glue sticks
Place the lids where you want them.. in the center of the
fabric.. and get ready to glue...
Gather the fabric one piece at a time and fold it towards
the middle and glue it to the lid until you get the fabric
Glued all the way around the lid..

Here i used a Christmas Card and used the lid as a Template.
I Put the lid where i wanted it and Traced around the lid..
Then i cut the Circles out..

Glue the Circles to the side of the lid where the fabric gathers..

I popped the lid into the ring after i tied the Yarn to it..
Then i have the main ring..( that goes over the door knob)
Then i repeated the process to the other two rings.

Can not forget the bells
Here we have the Main ring for the Door Knob
and the Other Rings getting finished
Here is them laying on the floor all done..

Here they are hanging on the door..

Ok.. So here is the end product.. Next time.. i'll try ribbon instead of yarn.. Maybe even put yarn around the rings.. I had fun doing this.. gonna see about making more.. Its fun and easy.. My kids will be doing some with me next.. lol

We used a staw to make the holes..

The girls making ornaments with cookie cutters and cherrios
from the small part of the metal funnel.

After they mixed and rolled and cut the dough.. they went
on cookie sheets and into the oven at 200 degrees for bout 30 mins..

Organization and Recycle an old laptop box

I have a thing these days about recycling things.. Well i had gotten a Swifter Sweeper.. and one day at dollartree.. believe it or not i found they had the wet and dry pads. Seeing as how they are not cheep to begin with.. i decided to get like 4 or 5 each.. My next delima was well there to put them.. they are all loose packages..  Well a few days later i went to a friends and i was helping her clean.. She gave me her old laptop box.. well asked if i can use it for anything.. I simply replied.. i know i'll find a use for it..
So here it is.. the laptop Box
So i know whats in the box, i started to decorate it with
the wrapping from the pads them selves.
Guess what? They all fit Perfectly inside. How great is that?!?!
See.. i knew i'd find something to use it for.. lol

Ok.. next.. I found out the I had some pads for the upright
wet jet sweeper.. the one for the velcro..
Here is how i fixed this issue.. Simply lift up on
the part for the velcro.. on both sides..

                                                       Then cut them in half..
We are ready to put them on.. simply position them just right..
Then tuck them in the little slits.. They stay on just great..Yes for some..
it might be a  little more work.. but for my household.. it works great..

Here we are ready to use the Swiffer just a minute or 2 after the alteration.
It even fits under the sink..
If you have any ideas please feel free to share.. :)

Hope you have a wonderful day..

Cookies and cupcakes Dec.12 2012

Cookies and cupcakes.. frosting..

The Frosting i use.. make is really good and the only frosting we make in my family now.. everyone loves it..                                 Its Cream Cheese Frosting..
Here is the Recipe.. 1  6oz package of Cream cheese
                              2 tsps Vanilla
                              1/2 cup butter
4 cups of sifted Powder Sugar
Beat together  Cream Cheese, vanilla and butter until fluffy. Slowly add powder sugar 1/2 cup at a time until the frosting is the right thickness to spread on cake. Keep in the refrigerator until serving..   My family does not let me use any other frosting.. even the store bought. lol
We used this frosting for the cupcakes and the sugar cookies... kids tasted it here and there. lol

Here we are making cookies... sugar cookies..
Here is the recipe I used for the sugar cookies.. (the link.. sugarcookies)

3-1/4  cups all-purpose flour,
1-1/2  tsp.baking powder
1/2  tsp.salt
1-1/4  cups unsalted butter, softened
1  cup sugar
1 egg
1  Tbsp. milk
2-1/2  tsp. vanilla
1/4  tsp. finely shredded lemon peel

directions

  • 1.
In medium mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In large mixing bowl beat butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl as necessary. Beat in egg, milk, vanilla, and lemon peel. Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour. Divide dough in half. Cover and chill 1 hour or until easy to handle.

    2.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Roll half the dough at a time, between sheets of waxed paper, to 1/4-inch thickness, sprinkling bottom sheet of waxed paper with flour if cookie dough sticks. Cut with desired cutters (if dough becomes too soft, return to refrigerator). Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are barely light brown. Transfer to wire rack to cool. Makes about 2-1/2 dozen (2-1/2- to 3-1/2-inch) cookies.

Here the girls have already decorated the cupcakes for church and have started
on cookies.. we just added food coloring..
                                                   The girls having fun decorating...

Below.. Potato candy.. (recipe: old-fashioned-potato-candy) Super easy.. Cooked one potato.. I used sweet potato.. ( thats what i had on hand) then you mash it up..I mixed and mashed 1/4 cup of powder sugar with the potatoe.. i continued adding the powder sugar

                                                Put it on wax paper..

Roll it out then spread a thin layer of peanut butter on.

                                                             Then roll it up
Since you already have the wax paper.. well i just rolled it up in that..

Here is the Potato candy in a ziplock bag going in the fridge..
